Universal Orlando: Which Parks, Which Ticket, and Do You Need an Express Pass?
4 min read
Short answer: choose the ticket by the parks you want to see, not by the lines. Buy an Express Pass only after that, and only if waiting is the thing you most want to avoid.
The parks and the two ticket types
The Universal Orlando Resort tickets are sold from €172.59 per person for one day. The listing names Universal Studios Florida, Universal Islands of Adventure, Universal Epic Universe and, with select tickets, Universal Volcano Bay.
It offers two multi-park choices. A 2-Park Park-to-Park ticket lets you move between two parks. The Universal Orlando All Parks ticket gives unlimited access to all four parks. Which of the two fits depends on how many days you have and whether you want the water park at all. Volcano Bay is only part of select tickets, so check the ticket you pick on the booking page before you pay.
What an Express Pass is
The Universal Orlando 2-Park Express Passes are sold from €118.54 per person. According to the listing, the Express Pass and the Express Unlimited Pass give one-time or unlimited skip-the-line entrance to the rides within Universal Studios Florida and Universal Islands of Adventure. That listing names those two parks only.
Universal’s own store describes Express as an add-on: separate theme park admission is required, and passes work on the dates you choose. For Epic Universe, Universal sells its own one-day Express Pass, and says it lets you skip the regular line once per ride at the most popular attractions. So an Express Pass is not a ticket on its own, and one pass does not cover every park. Read the booking page to see exactly what you are buying and which dates apply.
When it is worth paying for
The ticket gets you in; the pass changes how you spend the day. It makes sense if you only have one or two days, or if your group has little patience for queues. If you have three or four days and can pick the quieter hours for the big rides, the money may be better spent on another park day.
Our recommendation
| Offer | Price | Rating | What the listing says |
|---|---|---|---|
| Universal Orlando Resort tickets | €172.59 | 4.6 (1,910) | Four parks; choose 2-Park Park-to-Park or All Parks; one day |
| 2-Park Express Passes | €118.54 | 4.2 (319) | One-time or unlimited skip-the-line entrance to rides in Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure |
For most visitors: start with the park ticket and decide on the Express Pass last. The ticket is the more reviewed of the two offers. Add the pass if you have a short stay, not as a default.
